Oral Care & Hygiene

Some parents tend to stress themselves out over what it takes to reach a great level of oral health and hygiene for their child. However, as your Amarillo pediatric dentistry providers, we at Children’s Dentistry of Amarillo want to say that it’s nothing to be worried about. In fact, when keeping in mind the “Daily 4” for your child’s oral hygiene routine, it really couldn’t be any simpler. Just make sure that your child performs these four things “4” great oral health.

Brush

The absolute foundation of a healthy mouth lies in a great brushing regimen. Brushing twice-a-day will help fight plaque, cavities, and a plethora of other dental problems. It’s important to brush for at least two minutes each time, which should give a child enough time to sufficiently brush all of the areas of the mouth. Don’t forget the tongue either!

Floss

After brushing, the next important part of a great oral hygiene regimen is flossing. One of the most common ways that tooth decay develops is because of food that’s trapped between the teeth. Flossing will put a stop to that. If your child is having a hard time flossing, we recommend using an interdental cleaning device, which will make the task much simpler.

Rinse

A mouth rinse is typically the forgotten part of an oral hygiene regimen that many patients don’t take advantage of. Using a mouth rinse will promote oral hygiene, fight bacteria, and help prevent certain oral problems (such as tooth decay, gum disease, dry mouth, and bad breath).

Chew

This one may surprise you, but one of the best things that can be done for a person’s oral health can be to chew gum – sugar-free though, of course! The act of chewing will stimulate the salivary glands, which will help produce more saliva in the mouth. By producing more saliva, it will help wash away any food particles that are lingering in the mouth and it will also neutralize acids.
